I am currently spending my SECOND WEEKEND IN A ROW in Brussels. This may be a record. But I'm not complaining. The weather here has taken a HUGE turn for the better since my return from Italian escapades. It is WARM, SUNNY, AND SO NICE outside! All good things must come to an end though, and there are predictions for rain this afternoon. At this point it's still sunny though so I'm crossing my fingers!
Some highlights of the past couple weeks have been
1) My visit to the Royal Gardens of the King and Queen of Belgium. The gardens are only open for about a week and a half over the course of the entire year and I GOT TO VISIT THEM. The picture I included with this post is from there. The funniest part of the visit was at the end. We walked into a big room to find a TON of mechanical tulips swinging back and forth. I was really confused. But apparently they were all solar powered. Something about raising awareness for the environment. Does anyone want me to bring them a solar-powered swinging tulip back from Belgium!?
2) I spent some time basking in the sun at several parks over the course of the week. Parks are also prime locations for people watching. I made a list of interesting sights. The best? A middle-aged man sunbathing in his speedo (I thought I left those behind in Rio de Janeiro. Apparently not)
3) I've decided to branch out and try out some more food while I'm in Brussels. We attempted to go to a Mexican restaurant (I've been CRAVING Mexican food SO BADLY. I haven't had it since I've been in Europe). Unfortunately, the Mexican place was closed. I DID end up eating some traditional Belgian food, Greek food and SPECULOOS ICECREAM. I can't even begin to describe the deliciousness that is Speculoos. It's sort of like a peanut-buttery carmel concoction. so good.
Will probably be heading to the African museum this afternoon because they're celebrating their 100th anniversary and have all kinds of special exhibitions going on.
I also just recently realized that I'll be returning to the States in roughly two weeks. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE!?
Hi Mallory,
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to plant tulips along our front walk, but it does not get enough sunshine for the tulip bulbs to blossom. I think mechanical tulips would be a wonderful solution and would bring a spring time welcome to those visiting our home. I think purple or pink would be good, so if you have room in your suitcase bring several home! :)
