Home: la fin

When I think of home, I think of a place...that is no longer Belgium.

I've now been home for two days, and surprisingly have not been TOO affected by jet lag (Although I DID wake up at 4:30 am on my first morning back in Colorado. NOT cool. My family liked it because I made breakfast).
After my long plane flight, I arrived in Chicago, and immediately noticed several things:
1) baseball caps. They're SUCH an American phenomenon. I was in slight shock after not seeing them for two months
2) English. I forgot how much I enjoy eavesdropping on other people's conversations. It's also nice not having to ASK if people speak English/ to not have a MAJOR language barrier when I speak French (although I've also discovered I really miss that language)
3) Dollars. I got a bagel in Chicago and the cashier said it was $2. And I looked at him for a second without doing anything thinking "dollars? you mean euro? oh right...we're no longer in Europe." haha.

Anyway, it is nice to be home, but being abroad was a fabulous experience. Thank you to all of you who followed my blog...I hope you enjoyed it! I appreciate all of your interest and support during my time in Belgium.

Operation Belgian Waffles: Complete.

Au revoir everyone!!!

  1. Mallory.....I can't begin to express my sadness as "Belgian Waffles" comes to an end. I've been living my life vicariously(sp) through your wonderful blog. Thank you for sharing the details of your world travels. If you ever feel like globetrotting again, and dragging your aunt along, say the word. We love you and can't wait to see you again....by the way...when will that be?
    xoxo
