French, Fries and Flurries

While all of us in Belgium are enjoying our cold but not cold enough to snow weather (try snow/ice flurries), it seems that everyone in the U.S. (particularly at Villanova) is being DUMPED on! Enjoy the snow everyone!

Highlights for this week: CARNIVAL is the big celebration here before Lent, and Cologne, Germany is apparently known for it's big festival. I have potential plans to go visit this weekend, which is SO EXCITING!

In the meantime, I've been practicing my French because I have my first French exam on Thursday. eeek! I think my biggest accomplishments in French so far are the phrases "I don't speak french" (Je ne parle pas Francais), "Where is..." (ou est) and being able to count (but only through 60- apparently the numbers get funky after that). It is exciting to have some basic survival French anyway...better than no French, which is how it was when I got here! It's too bad that when I attempt to speak French on the spot it usually ends up being Spanish. What can I say, they're both foreign languages! I just need some more practice.

One last thing: if you ever come to Belgium, make sure to have fries with samurai sauce. It's this orangy-looking mayonnaise stuff (sounds a bit gross I know) but I tried it this weekend and it is SO GOOD! Dave (who also lives with my host family) is obsessed with it! Just so you know!
